    First Steps is a project we run to help digital media students gain commercial experience through designing websites for real businesses. Participation is free and is a great way to take your first steps online.

  • Eligibility

    First Steps is available to small businesses in Sussex. With limited places, acceptance is based on matching clients requirements with the students capabilities and learning criteria.

  • The Detail

    Clients are allocated a group of students who each work individually and competitively to produce a website to the requirements. On completion, clients are invited to choose their favourite site for use in their business.

  • Cost

    Participation is free, though clients are expected to meet the cost of purchasing a web address. Links Creative provide three months free hosting with ongoing hosting available from £5 per calendar month.

  • Contribution

    Participants are expected to provide a full set of requirements and content for the website in advance of the project. Feedback is also a requirement both during the project and on completion.

  • Big Picture

    Today, SMEs are feeling the pinch. Additionally, the gap between employer requirements and the skill sets of those leaving education has hit the spotlight. First Steps supports local business and kick-starts commercial awareness in young people building confidence and employability.

Upcoming Projects

March - April 2012 (FS3) [ Note: Dates updated 10th October ]

You will be working with 1st year Digital Media Design students producing their first website. This project is aimed at those without a website and with simple requirements. We will no longer be taking applications from 1st January 2012. Status: Closed for applications
